FAQ: Chiropractic for pregnancy

Pregnancy caused back pain can be effectively treated by chiropractic methods
Most people fail to see the connection between pregnancy and
chiropractic at first. Chiropractic care for pregnancy involves four
stages which can give patients an optimally functioning nervous system.
This helps the mother as well as the child and goes a long way towards reducing pregnancy related back pain.
Pre-Conception
Many of our patients testified that after receiving chiropractic care, deliveries are shorter and more pleasant.
Chiropractic treatment before conception can promote an optimal uterine function and
regulate the menstrual cycle. This helps the body to become balanced,
strong and flexible enough for carrying the pregnancy comfortably.
Chiropractic during pregnancy
Through
regular chiropractic care patients develop balance and flexibility of
the uterine ligament. This makes it comfortable for the growing baby
and allows it to assume an ideal birthing position.
Labour and Birth
Chiropractic
care enables mothers to adapt to the birth process so that they do not
need a lot of intervention. As the mother stays supple, moving through
the birth canal becomes easy for the baby.
Post Birth
It
is important that patients understand that a baby’s spine can be put
under stress even in a natural birth. Should the baby suffer from
subluxations, turning its head to any side can be uncomfortable. This
usually results in breastfeeding problems.
Having a normally
functioning nervous system, particularly when you are pregnant helps in
creating a suitable environment so your baby can recognise his or her
best potential.
Will these chiropractic adjustments harm my baby?
No,
not in anyway. This is the most common concern amongst those who opt
for chiropractic care as they feel their baby will receive adjustments
like theirs. Adjusting techniques are modified to suit a unique spinal
problem and each patient’s size. A baby’s spine does not have the
muscle tightness that adults have. Due to this, the energy required for
adjusting an infant’s spine is considerably less compared to what
adults require.
Can adjustments make my spine very loose?
No.
Adjustments are only made to spinal joints that have been locked up.
This enables weak ligaments and muscles to mend and become stable.
Why should I undergo chiropractic treatment at a chiropractor in London if my pregnancy is normal?
Birth
is a natural phenomenon. However, we have made changes in the process
that has made it increasingly complex. Most hospitals treat birth as a
disease as it is often accompanied with loud noises, a severe drop in
temperature and other tactless issues. Administration of anaesthesia
and drugs can affect the newborn significantly.
What if my medical doctor does not approve of chiropractic during pregnancy?
You
should understand that getting a chiropractic opinion regarding the
health problems affecting you child does not need anyone’s approval.
The decision-making process is always easier with another health care
expert’s opinion. Medical practitioners who are up-to-date with recent
paediatric chiropractic research have begun to understand the
importance of this drug-free, natural approach to better health.
What is the connection between my spine and my baby?
This
is one of the most ideal times to get chiropractic care. Having a
nervous system that functions optimally is always good, especially
during pregnancy as it offers benefits for the mother and the baby.
Adjustment methods are modified depending on the mother’s condition,
size and weight. Many mothers need chiropractic care during this time
of hormonal changes and weight gain. Most patients report easier and
shorter births with chiropractic care.
