Trapped Nerve - We Can Help at Our Chiropractic Clinic London
Trapped nerve is a common back-related
ailment, which causes severe discomfort to those suffering from it.
This problem is most persistent among the ageing population. Obstructed
nerve openings in the spine are the major reason for the problem of
pinched nerves.
There are 24 moving bones present near the
spine region. These bones protect the spinal cord and also allow normal
twisting movements. The pairs of nerve roots branch off near the spinal
cord at each segmental level. Your brain can perform efficiently if
these openings are unobstructed. The problem of pinched nerves
generally arises when the spinal cord is displaced from its original
position. Misalignment can reduce the size of nerve openings eventually
resulting into subluxation.
Following are two types of nerve disturbances that are caused when the spinal bones are displaced from the original position.
Types of Nerve Disturbances
Compressed Nerve Disturbance – This nerve disturbance occurs when the bones and soft tissues compress the delicate underlying nerve tissue.
Irritated Nerve Disturbance
– It is caused due to the twisting and stretching of nerve roots. In
simple terms, it can be described as the act of a hard tissue rubbing
against a delicate tissue.
Remember that bones are static
structures which get dislocated only when the adjoining muscles move
them. Moreover, muscles move only when propelled by the nervous system.
A professional chiropractic will locate these areas and reduce the
overall impact on the nervous system.
Nudging the Bones
A
professional chiropractor will examine the areas where the spinal bones
are fixed. The chiropractor will then give a slight but exact nudge to
the bones. This is known as chiropractic adjustment in medical terms.
The energy provided via this treatment reduces nerve irritation.
Chiropractic treatment can also restore the integrity of the nervous
system. It is also considered as a natural solution for several
health-related problems.
How long does it take for nerve irritation to be reduced?
Usually,
the problem of nerve irritation or pinched nerves tends to disappear
after a few weeks. The duration of chiropractic treatment might vary
from patient to patient. The overall time taken for the treatment
depends on your appointments, proper rest, exercise, lifestyle and
nutrition. Follow a nutritious diet and exercise regularly to get the
best results in a relatively shorter time period.
Do some people need only one visit to fix their pinched nerve?
Pain
relief within a single session is indeed possible. However, such
effects do not last for a longer time. The problem may reoccur when the
underlying muscles and soft tissues are not strengthened or restrained.
Most individuals undergo chiropractic treatment in their adulthood.
This means that they have already suffered structural and functional
damage all these years before the treatment. Thus, a single visit
rarely produces permanent results in majority of cases.
Why not use muscle relaxants instead?
Patients
are advised not to use muscle relaxants. These drugs are convenient,
but do not solve the problem. Moreover, most of the drugs are known to
produce side-effects and will not be recommended long term.
Chiropractic treatment is a safer and more effective solution for the
correction of pinched nerves.
